DCnU: Justice League

Justice League DCnU

With all the renditions I’ve done based on DC’s relaunch in the fall, this one was inevitable. I present my version of Justice League!

First of all, the layout isn’t anything original. This looks exactly like a hundred group attack shots I’ve done. But sometimes the typical works. I also love paying homage to Garcia-Lopez iconic Justice League marketing group shots.

Also, a lot of cheats with this one since we’ve only seen a handful of these redesigns. Even basing it on Jim Lee’s JL cover, it’s still hard to do an interpretation, especially with Cyborgs new look. So I applied heavy shadows in parts and created new detail in others.

But another fun Justice League piece to put together. And if you’ve been living under the proverbial rock: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Flash, and Cyborg.

DC Character Sketches June 2011

Here are some of my more recent comic book character sketches, most based on new art released for DC’s relaunch this fall. I enjoy reinterpreting the new costume designs. The Green Lantern Corps sketch was done to celebrate the upcoming movie, which I am eagerly anticipating.

Cyborg Fight!

Cyborg vs Cyborg

This will be the first in a new series of inked sketches where characters just beat the beejeezus out of each other. The first bout is between Cyborg Superman and Teen Titan Cyborg, a match I don’t believe I’ve ever seen in print.

DC: Deaths

July 29th, 2010 Administrator Posted in SKETCHBLOG, comic book characters No Comments »

I got inspired after watching the newly released “Batman: Under the Red Hood”, so I began with that stark image everyone remembers from “A Death in the Family”. And of course in keeping with this morbid theme, my version of the final page from Superman #75 followed.

Both pieces: pencil layout, pen and ink on 9×12 bristol.

Inking Studies Series: DC3

July 6th, 2010 Administrator Posted in SKETCHBLOG, comic book characters No Comments »

In my effort to practice inking techniques, I created this series of illustrations based on DC Comics characters in thematic groups of 3. These are mostly done on 9×12 bristol board using both Pitt pens and Prismacolor fine point pens in varying sizes.
